Cold Laser Therapy

The Erchonia XLR8 and the Microlight ML830® are FDA approved, noninvasive, coherent light lasers, also known as a “cold lasers.” In contrast to surgical or cosmetic lasers that produce heat and thermo-destructive laser energy, these produce no harm to cells or tissues. Cold lasers have been used in medicine for over 30 years with clinical studies demonstrating medical efficacy and safety.

Cold laser treatments are painless – there is no vibration, pulsating shock, or heat. The only sensation felt is that of the laser head as it comes in contact with the skin.

The nature of the laser light has several facets: wavelength, coherency, power and frequency. The light energy penetrates into cells and reacts with receptors called chromophores.  Different frequencies target different tissues and/or organs. Research studies have noted that many acute & chronic conditions may be improved or eliminated with use of the laser.

  • Some examples are:

    Musculoskeletal Injuries / Diseases

    Arthritis / joint pain / elbow and hip dysplasia / herniated and bulging discs in neck or spine, muscle pain and spasms / nerve root pain / partial cruciate ligament tear / muscle sprains / nerve damage / degenerative myelopathy / lameness /  facial nerve paralysis / spondylosis

    Skin Issues / Diseases

    Wound healing (post-op incisions) /  hot spots / lick granulomas / reduction in size of lipomata (fatty tumors) / eczema / dermatitis / pemphigus / alopecia (hair loss) / stomatitis / neurodermatitis

    Endocrine Diseases

    Cushings / Addisons / thyroid disorders / diabetes / pancreatic insufficiency

    Internal Medicine Diseases

    Liver disease / kidney disease / inflammatory bowel disease / epilepsy / megaesophagus / digestive issues / allergies /  pancreatitis / ear infections / vestibular disease /  urinary issues / cardiac issues / gallstones

    Cold laser therapy is an excellent alternative for pets who don’t tolerate acupuncture or handling well.

    The number of treatments depends upon the severity of the condition and its duration.

    There are no known side effects from administration of cold laser therapy.

Reiki Treatments

Reiki is the universal life force energy that permeates all beings and is present in all of nature. It offers a safe, painless, non-invasive energy healing system. Reiki supports the body’s own healing abilities by strengthening and balancing the flow of energy throughout the chakras and different body systems. Reiki can heal at all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Reiki always works to the highest good for the animal, therefore no harm can result from any Reiki treatment. It goes directly to the source of the problem most in need of healing, which is sometimes unknown, even to the practitioner.

It is especially effective for emotional pain and distress by assisting animals to let go of past negative experiences and memories. This can ease the transition of newly adopted rescue or shelter animals into their new homes.

  • It can also be very useful in preparing animals preoperatively for surgery and with postoperative healing.

    Animals that prefer not to be touched can still experience the positive healing energy of Reiki, as Reiki treatments can be given (and are just as effective) from a distance.

    Reiki also offers supports to the entire family, human and animal alike, when the loss of a beloved pet is imminent. When Reiki is given at or near the time of passing, it can bring emotional and spiritual healing to all involved, as well as acceptance and relief from pain and fear for the animal.

Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation “VOM”

BVeterinary orthopedic manipulation (VOM) is a healing technology used for dogs, cats, horses and other animals which is extremely safe, gentle and effective.

It shares both similarities and differences with chiropractic care. The essential similarity between VOM and chiropractic care is that both modalities seek to restore appropriate body function through the reduction of “subluxations”. Spinal and joint subluxations cause areas of the nervous system to fall out of communication.  Correcting or reducing these subluxations re-establishes nerve pathway communication, thus inducing the body’s capability to heal and normalize its function.

VOM differs from classic chiropractic care in that it is performed only with the use of a hand held device called an activator, or spinal accelerometer. Although many human and veterinary chiropractors use this same tool for performing adjustments, the VOM technique utilizes it in a different fashion.

  • With VOM, the activator device actually locates and reduces spinal subluxations in one motion. In other words, the precise force motion delivered by the activator simultaneously identifies and corrects the spinal subluxation problem.

    VOM technology instills a low force, yet very precise, adjustment without inducing a lot of excess motion into each spinal segment. This is what makes VOM (and activator use in general) such a safe modality, as it is excess force/motion that can potentially cause injury.  The device does this by trading motion for speed.
    Furthermore, it accomplishes this regardless of the patient’s position (standing, sitting, lying down) and the level of cooperation (relaxed, moving/wiggling).

    VOM is useful in treating a wide variety of diseases and conditions, including: lameness, hip dysplasia syndrome, intervertebral disc disease, urinary and fecal incontinence, Wobblers' disease, knee problems, digestive disorders, endocrine diseases, performance/agility problems, behavioral problems, and many more.

Bach Flower Essences

Bach Flower Essences are a safe and natural method of healing, homeopathically prepared in England from wild flowers, plants, bushes and trees. They are not to be confused with aromatherapy, essential oils or herbal remedies.

The essences gently restore the balance between mind and body by working through negative emotions, such as fear, worry, anxiety, jealousy, grief, and despair, which interfere with the equilibrium of the being as a whole. They allow peace, harmony and happiness to return to the sufferer so that the body is free to heal itself.

The Bach Flower Essences have been very helpful for both dogs and cats who are dealing with one or more of the following issues: separation anxiety, fears/phobias, transition into a new home, overcoming and letting go of past trauma/abuse, adjusting to a new family member (human or canine), grief, loss and despair.  As each pet is unique in its needs, I will customize a blend tailored to the animal’s specific issues.

The essences are safe, non toxic, have no negative side effects and may be taken in conjunction with other herbs or medications with no adverse interactions.

“There is no true healing unless there is a change in outlook, peace of mind, and inner happiness”  - Dr. Edward Bach, founder

Raindrop Technique

Raindrop technique was developed by Dr Gary Young, N.D. and later adapted for animals by Melissa Shelton, DVM. The technique utilizes therapeutic grade essential oils along with feather stroking massage and Vita Flex to restore balance to the body.

Only 100% therapeutic grade oils, deemed safe for dietary use/oral consumption, should be used.  Young Living Oils and DoTerra oils are both excellent, reputable choices. These oils are carefully cultivated from seed to distillation.  They are steam distilled, with the exception of citrus fruits, which are only expressed under pressure.  Their purity has been certified by gas chromatography or mass spectrophotometry. Inferior oils may be extracted with solvents or diluted with other potentially toxic oils, such as castor oil or synthetic fragrance oils, and should be avoided at all costs.

  • In the Raindrop technique, the practitioner applies small drops of the essential oils along the spine from about 6 inches above the spine. It is theorized that the oils interact with the animal’s electromagnetic field before even penetrating the skin, thereby enhancing the electromagnetic properties of the oils as well. The oils, which are applied in a specific order, are gently massaged, or feather stroked, into the spine, which stimulates energetic impulses throughout the nervous system.  The unique structure of the animal’s hair follicles promotes rapid absorption, and the specific order of the oils stimulates the immune system, eliminates bacteria, viruses and fungi, reduces inflammation, and improves circulation and lymphatic drainage.  Emotional release techniques can be used in conjunction with the Raindrop technique to promote mental, emotional and physical balance.  Once all the desired oils are applied, the practitioner performs the Vita Flex technique, which was developed in Tibet thousands of years ago.  It literally means “vitality through the reflexes”.  A gentle, rolling motion of the finger pads, tips and nails simulates electrical energy like that of a circuit. The electrical energy that is produced during the technique transfers to the nerve pathways. Once the energy finds a gap in the circuit, it repairs the break in the pathway that is creating the imbalance in the body.

    There are numerous benefits of the Raindrop Technique. Here are just a few, as reported by holistic vets:

    In cats:

    -Addresses emotional and physical wellbeing of the cat;
    -Pain management including arthritis, inflammation and injury recovery;
    -Allergies and respiratory infections;
    -Feline lymphosarcoma, cat cancer and tumors;
    -Prevention and amelioration of urinary tract infections and autoimmune disease;
    -Detoxification after anesthesia and surgery;
    -Releases toxins and boosts the immune system;
    -Aids in the treatment of feline diabetes.

    It will also compliment treatment of other feline conditions, as reducing the toxic load on the body helps to stimulate the immune system and accelerate healing.

    In dogs:

    -Addresses physical and emotional well being of the dog;
    -Prevents and soothes sore backs and muscles before and after training or showing;
    -Treats canine hip problems and joint pain;
    -A useful adjunctive treatment to dog arthritis remedies;
    -Prevention and treatment of illness or colds;
    -Detoxification after anesthesia and surgery;
    -Aids in the treatment of Lymes’ Disease;
    -Releases toxins and boosts the immune system.

    It will also compliment treatment of canine melanoma and other cancers, hives and allergies. Decreasing the toxic load on the body helps to stimulate the immune system and accelerate the healing process.
